Mykola Tomenko: Assessment of Ukrainian History is the Exclusive Privilege of Ukrainian People
Adjourning the plenary meeting of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Friday, Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, stated, "Political assessments of our past (either the World War II or other events) is the exclusive privilege of Ukrainian people Ukrainian politicians, historians and citizens."
The Deputy Chairman believes that other states should be prevented from interfering or ‘advising´ on celebration of particular events. "If the state does not prevent such foreign intervention supported by radical organizations in Ukraine, it might lead to celebrating the anniversary of the MolotovRibbentrop Pact in our country," he stressed.
"Thus, Ukrainian history is Ukraine´s business," M.Tomenko summed up. "We should stop turning Ukrainian history into a political issue, making it a means of consolidation, not conflict," he stated.
